Hiring a car is a popular and easy way to explore Poland. The country’s network of motorways and highways has been improved and is expanding fast. The north of the country enjoys a maritime climate of mild winters and cooler summers, while the south of Poland has a Mediterranean climate with hot summers and colder winters.
Be aware that in Poland and across mainland Europe, you’ll be driving on the right-hand side of the road. Some key road rules in Poland include that cars must use dipped headlights 24/7 all year round. Check your route for toll roads before setting out.
Your Avis representative can advise you on toll and road charges before leaving the Avis car hire location and whether snow tyres or chains are needed. In cities, be aware of the tram systems in operation and always overtake trams on the right.

The minimum age to rent a car with Avis in Poland is 21. Age restrictions also vary by vehicle and some selected car groups are not available to drivers under the age of 25.
There is currently no maximum age for hiring a rental car, so long as you have had a full, valid, licence for at least 1 year. Some additional steps may be required for those who are over the age of 75 on the date of the scheduled return.
What documents do I need to hire a car in Poland?
